God’s Love

by Reverend Mark Ampah

Good morning church. This month’s theme is the Love of God. Reverend Mark Ampah starts us off in this series. Here are a few notes from the sermon.

Reverend emphasizes how the love of God does not only go to believers. It goes to unbelievers as well. The Lord shows his kindness to unbelievers too. Reverend goes on to say how people can be blessed financially politically in many other aspects. Again: God blesses everyone.

Yet Reverend Mark makes the distinction that those who believe in Jesus are also loved. This is a special love that saves us from sin and destruction. This same love redeemed us from the powers of darkness and the forces of evil. By this same love, we are equipped to have power and walk upon this earth. God has saved us and we have our righteousness before God.

Furthermore, Jesus death was a symbol of his love. By this we know God has loved us, so we should love one another.

A couple of months ago we spoke of sin- falling short of God’s perfect standard, missing the mark, violation of the conscious.  Sin is idolatry. We know this but are still tempted to do so.

Here Reverend Mark introduces a sub theme: Jesus covered our Sins in his love. We are no longer bound by our wrongdoings. Jesus gave us the power to live a righteous life on earth.

Ephesians 4:29 “ Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” We are admonished to think before we speak. The words that we speak should edify others.

People must be comforted by our words.

We also focused on the scripture Ephesians 5:1 “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children,” telling us we must be imitators of God. So then fighting and slander must leave our lives. We shouldn’t get into petty arguments and ignore people out of anger. Also, it is not everything that needs to be spoken about. It is not everything we have to confront.

Sometimes we must cover the wrongdoings of others with love. As Christ loves us, so we should love others.

Reverend gives a powerful statement saying to “Look up to the cross instead of crossing others.” Are we thermometers or thermostats? Do we change because of our environment or remain stable despite what happens around us?

Lastly we are given the scripture 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 highlighting the concept that we do not war according to the flesh.

Let us continue to exhibit God’s love in our daily lives. Have a blessed week.
